Sinusitis: What is the cause and treatment?

Inflammation in the nose that causes flu is called sinusitis. Among the common symptoms are frequent sneezing, nose itching, clogged, and runny nose. For even worse conditions, it can also affect other organs such as the eyes, ears, and throat

Sinusitis allergy means the person is allergic to dust and pollen that causes the flu symptoms to appear as above.

Did you know 20% of our community faced the problem of sinusitis? It has always been a problem in society. Sinusitis is not life-threatening, but it can affect our quality of life. For example, not enough sleep as a result of apnea. Apnea problems are when you are having obstructive sleep apnea.

This problem will cause work performance to decline due to drowsiness and even dangerous for those who drive in such a situation. Studies find that people with apnea also have a higher risk of developing heart disease.

So How do Sinusitis Problems Occur?

Those with a family history of allergies such as asthma and eczema are more likely to experience this problem.

Here is an explanation from an article by thediagnosa.com about sinusitis:

"It starts when protein or material from the outside enters the nasal cavity. In individuals at risk, exposure to these external substances will cause the immune system to be more sensitive to them. It occurs when white blood cells produce an immune protein called Immunoglobulin E (IgE) after exposure to that substance or protein.

Next, IgE automatically attaches to a white blood cell known as a 'mast cell.' The first time a person is exposed to the substance, will not experience any symptoms of sinusitis. But if he is exposed to the same substance again, the substance will stick to the IgE in the Mast cell. This mast cell will release various types of compounds that will cause nasal allergy (sinus).

This is due to the body's immune system being overly sensitive. In medical terms, it is called hypersensitivity. When a patient is exposed to something they are allergic to, then the patient will produce excessive symptoms

It is due to the body's overactive immune system or its scientific term is called hypersensitivity. When the body's immune system is overly sensitive, it will produce excessive symptoms as well. In the sinuses, the lining covering the inside of the nose is very sensitive to dust and pollen. "

Signs of Sinusitis

Apart from these symptoms, other symptoms may occur together that is

  • Lack of sense of smell
  • Headache
  • Ear pain
  • Tears come out
  • Red-eye
  • Swollen eyes
  • Feeling tired
  • Dizziness

Treatment of Sinus Problems

There are three ways of treatment for sinus patients, namely:

  1. Avoid allergens
  • Avoid using furniture that will be dusty like carpet
  • Always clean the dust
  • Avoid defending pets
  • Mattress covers need to be changed regularly
  • Always keep the house dry so that the fungus does not grow

  1. Use of drugs
  • Anti-histamine medication: It works to stop the process that will cause allergy symptoms.
  • Remedy to reduce runny nose: It works to narrow the blood vessels in the nose so that nasal water production can be reduced.
  • Steroid-based nasal spray: It works to reduce inflammation in the nose.

  1. Immune Therapy
In this therapy, the drug will be given either by injection or placed under the tongue to reduce the body's immune system's sensitivity to allergens.
The percentage to recover by using this immune therapy can be said to be high. Still, often, it is used only for patients who have severe and frequent sinus symptoms even after using medication.
You are advised to see a doctor for an accurate diagnosis.
